Cancer is a life-altering experience, and recovery extends far beyond the final treatment. Survivors often find themselves in an unfamiliar space, facing emotional, physical, and lifestyle challenges they never anticipated. Oncologists and medical teams focus on treating the disease. For patients, what happens afterwards, including the healing, rebuilding, and reclaiming of life, can feel overwhelming. This is where a health coach can be a game-changer.
Health coaching is not just giving advice. They are there to empower cancer survivors to navigate their recovery with confidence. From emotional support to lifestyle modifications, a health coach provides the tools, strategies, and accountability needed to help survivors move forward with purpose.
Studies suggest that health coaching improves adherence to healthy behaviors, enhances quality of life, and reduces anxiety in cancer survivors (PMC8663674, PMC9662252).
For example, a systematic review involving 12 studies with 1,038 cancer survivors found that health coaching led to significant improvements in quality of life, reduced chronic pain and fatigue, and increased physical activity levels.
Additionally, a pilot study with 20 overweight or obese breast cancer survivors demonstrated 100% adherence to an initial wellness coaching session and 96% adherence to follow-up calls. Participants showed significant improvements in physical activity levels, dietary habits, and certain aspects of quality of life.
Personalized Guidance for a New Chapter
One of the biggest struggles after cancer is figuring out how to move forward. Your body has changed, your mindset has shifted, and your priorities may be completely different than they were before diagnosis.
As a health coach, I help survivors design a personalized recovery plan that addresses their unique needs. Unlike a one-size-fits-all approach, my coaching focuses on what works best for you, taking into account:
✅ Long-term goal setting – Rebuilding life in alignment with new values and priorities
✅ Mental and emotional well-being – Managing stress, fear of recurrence, and self-confidence
✅ Physical health – Energy levels, movement, and nutritional needs
✅ Lifestyle changes – Sleep, habits, and routines that support healing
The goal here is for me to guide you toward rebuilding a life that feels good and meaningful to you.
Emotional Support & Mindset Shifts
The end of treatment doesn’t mean the end of challenges. Many survivors report that the hardest part begins after treatment is over. Approximately 25% of cancer survivors experience persistent psychological and social distress, including anxiety and depression (cancer.gov).
Additionally, between 25% and 41% of survivors report ongoing distress following the completion of cancer treatment (cancerprogressreport.aacr.org).
As as result, the emotional toll of cancer including fear, uncertainty, and even guilt can make it difficult to fully embrace life again.
Research indicates that coaching interventions significantly reduce anxiety and depression in cancer survivors, helping them rebuild confidence (Brainz Magazine).
As a health coach, I help shift your mindset from surviving to thriving by addressing common post-cancer struggles like:
🔹 Fear of recurrence and learning how to manage anxiety around scans and health concerns
🔹 Self-identity struggles and embrace the changes in your body and redefining what “health” means for you
🔹 Emotional healing through allowing yourself to process feelings without judgment
Support for Lifestyle and Behavioral Changes
Lifestyle habits play a crucial role in cancer recovery, yet many survivors struggle to make long-term changes on their own. Health coaching helps improve adherence to nutrition, physical activity, and other lifestyle behaviors that contribute to long-term survivorship outcomes (PMC9662252). My support helps provide structured support and accountability to help you:
🥗 Improve Nutrition and shift from restrictive diets to nourishing, whole-food eating patterns.
🏋️♂️ Incorporate Movement by creating an exercise plan that builds strength and confidence without overwhelming the body.
😴 Prioritize Rest through establishing healthy sleep habits that support healing and energy levels.
🌿 Reduce Stress by implementing mindfulness practices, breathwork, and relaxation techniques to maintain emotional balance.
Accountability & Motivation to Stay on Track
It’s easy to set goals. It’s much harder to stick with them. That’s why accountability is key in making lasting changes. Here, I act as your partner in progress, helping you stay consistent and motivated when challenges arise.
Part of my coaching includes:
🔹 Regular check-ins to keep you on track and allow for adjustments as needed
🔹 Goal-setting strategies to help break big changes into small, manageable steps
🔹 Encouragement & support to provide motivation to keep going, even on tough days
Unlike a doctor’s short follow-up visits, I offer ongoing support to help you bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be.
